Mark the truck when you can still see it. It is smaller than the day, and that is the point. Look at the first landmark back to the truck first.

At the truck

Then turn around and look while the truck is still in sight. Mark the turn-around time before you mark anything else.

The slip

Watch for a walk that starts without a backward look. If it is already true in the parking area, it will be worse a mile in.

The check is you know the landmark that leads back. Fail it and you are done for the morning. That is a successful use of the note.

Keep on the land boring. Boring means you came home with the same people you left with.

A field note, not legal advice. Check the season, the species rules, and whether you have permission to be on the land.
